The Open boats are still very new to most U.S. sailors. The Open 5.00, 5.70, 6.50 and 7.50 are all designed by French Group Architect FINOT-CONQ. They are all based on the same principles as the world famous Open 60, Class 40 and Mini Transats boats. All of them have a wide beam (usually over 8 feet) and they have a deep bulb which allows them to carry more sail area than a similar sized boat. As a result, the Open Boats are fast but very stable in any conditions.

Since the Open Boats offer a different sailing experience we don't expect, nor do we recommend, that anyone purchases a boat without a sea trial. Open Sailing offers various different ways for you to get behind the tiller:
