With the <a href="http://www.open570usa.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=54&Itemid=76&lang=en">fleet in California</a> at 25 boats and still growing hopefully we'll set a new record at <a href="http://www.lbrw.org">Long Beach Race Week</a> where the Open 5.70s have the "biggest fleet, smallest boat" for the last few years in a row. The highlight of this coming season is probably the North American Champions being hosted by the America's Cup Yacht Club - the <a href="http://www.ggyc.com/">Golden Gate Yacht Club</a> in San Francisco. The racing calendar this year is all about the <a href="http://pacificcup.org/">Pacific Cup</a> - a race from San Francisco to Hawaii. In the build up to this race the Open Sailing Pogo 2 will be putting in the miles with <a href="http://www.pssala.com/">PSSA</a> racing to far away places such as Bishop Rock and Guadalupe Island. As you would expect the boat has been decked out in Open Sailing colors with oversize bow numbers, racing stripe, and Open Sailing logo - just like <a href="http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.496138061948.268410.132033541948&type=3&l=267ca0121c">the other boat</a> in the Open Sailing fleet!. We have also implemented the latest &amp; greatest tweaks that have just been added to the 2012 North American Open 5.70 Class Rules. This boat will also be available for <a href="mailto:info@opensailingusa.com?subject=Charter 570">charter</a> so if your budget doesn't quite stretch to a new boat why not take advantage of the new rules that allow any one to take the helm (no longer owner-driver) and race against the best in the funnest fleet in the west!</p> </td> </tr> </table> <hr/> <table cellpadding="5"> <tr> <td valign="middle" colspan="2"> <p align="justify" style="margin:2px;font-family:helvetica;font-size:12pt;line-height:1.25em;"> In January's <a href="http://www.marinermagazine.com/">Mariner Magazine</a> Open Sailing's own Jerome Sammarcelli shares some insight into the world of resin infusion - the innovative building process that is used to build the Pogo 2. </p> <p align="justify" style="margin:2px;font-family:helvetica;font-size:10pt;line-height:1.25em;"> <i>"Preparation is one of the more important steps to the process. Not only must the mold be perfectly cleaned and waxed, but also must be airtight. The infusion requires a vacuum pressure over the laminate (and therefore the mold)and it is critical to make sure there are no air leaks between the two halves of the mold. The two halves are assembled using foam gaskets,sealant tape and bolts. Additional sealant tape is also pressed onto each bolts.
