The forecast for Saturday was for 20+ knots so the crew of the Open 6.50, “Crash”, were looking forward to some fast sailing. It was the 2nd race in the Del Rey Yacht Club Berger Series. At only 17.5 nautical miles it was the shortest race of the series which typically consists of an upwind beat to Topanga Canyon followed by a reach back to Marina del Rey.
