Pogo 2 at the 2011 Oakland Boat Show

Nik
Looooooong Trip to San Francisco:
USA 806 took the road on Friday morning, around 6:30am. Unfortunately, our van’s turbo diesel was malfunctioning and we had no power going uphill…which translated into a 9 hour trip. It was painful to do 40mph driving up the grapevine outside of LA.
So instead of splashing the boat Friday afternoon as planned, we rigged the Open 5.70 (that we were towing as well) and raced last weekend with the Open 5.70 fleet.
Today, we splashed USA 806 out of Alameda Marina, stepped the mast and rigged the boat.
The crane worked great and Rich the harbormaster was super nice and make us feel home already!
We will move the boat tomorrow to Jack London Square at Oakland tomorrow.
Here are some photos…before we get the “good shots” during the show!
As mentioned before, 806 will be in San Francisco until the end of the month, so don’t wait to book your demo ride.

Open 5.70 racing one-design in San Francisco Bay

San Francisco Flyer

April is an exciting month for the Open 5.70 in San Francisco. There have been boats sailing on the bay for a while now but so far all the racing has been PHRF. All that is about to change. On April 18th Tiburon Yacht Club is hosting the first ever one-design start for the Open 5.70 in San Francisco Bay. The race will be part of the Don Wan regatta and there will be 5-6 Open 5.70s on the starting line ready to race around the buoys. Since the regatta is officially only on Saturday, on Sunday the Opens will be participating in a more casual random leg race (more like a parade) around the bay. If you’d like to check out the boats feel free to stop by the Tiburon Yacht Club that weekend. We will also be available before and after the regatta weekend for demo sails feel free to contact us for more information.

Miami Heat

Sailing On Biscayne Bay

Sailing On Biscayne Bay

After five long days in the sun at the Miami Strictly Sail boat show it was time to go sailing! Since it was Open Sailings first time in Miami there was a lot of buzz around the Open 5.70 and Open 6.50. With one Open 5.70 sold at the show and a long line of people eager to go for a sail Open Sailing were happy to oblige. Based out of the Shake-A-Leg sailing center in Coconut Grove the Open 5.70 was on the water doing demos for 4 straight days. The conditions in Biscayne Bay were ideal – warm blue water, minimal chop, and plenty of wind! Everyone returned the dock with a huge smile on their face after an exciting downwind run where we often saw speeds of 12 knots and above. Since the boat and the bay go together so well we’re optimistic that the Open 5.70 fleet in Miami will grow quickly.
