November is turning out to be a big MINI month for Open Sailing:

- We are now counting the days until the first two Pogo 2 are ready to sail. USA 804 (Lee Malm) and USA 806 (Team Open Sailing) are racing to the water! USA 804 is currently a few boat lengths ahead and should be in the water around Thanksgiving break. USA 806 is anticipating more breeze in the next couple of weeks and will also be on the water before the end of November. Both boats will be sailed out of Southern California. We are now organizing TEST SAILS on USA 806. If you are interested in testing the POGO 2, simply EMAIL us. Test Sails aboard USA 806 will start in December. Production slot deposits are also accepted (20% refundable deposit) in order to get your boat ready for the 2011 season! Our goal is to race USA 806 so by testing the boat, you will be able to check out many sails change (cut by UK Sailmakers), a complete NKE Electronic package, full electrical and solar powered equipped. Open Sailing will be at the Newport International Boat in Rhode Island. The show start on Thursday September 17th through Sunday September 20th. The Open 5.70 will be on display next to TENT A. You’ll be able to check out the boat and there will also be an opportunity to schedule a demo after the show. (more…)

Open Sailing is planning a road trip to San Francisco from August 19th to August 26th. We will bring two Open 5.70s and our plan is as follows:

• Wednesday August 19th

  Race out of Sequoia YC, Redwood City.

• Thursday August 20th

  Demo rides on Open 5.70 out of Sequoia YC, anybody whose interested should contact us asap.

• Friday August 21st

  Afternoon – Demo rides on Open 5.70 out of Berkeley YC, anybody whose interested should contact us asap.
  Evening – Berkeley Beer Can Race – contact us if you’d like to crew.

• Saturday/Sunday August 22nd/23rd

  Sarcoma Cup Regatta – one day of buoy racing on Saturday followed by a pursuit race on Sunday. All the local boats will be out for this race so we will have 6 Open 5.70s on the line. Contact us (or the owners) for crewing opportunities.

• Monday August 24th

  Demo rides on Open 5.70 out of Richmond YC, anybody whose interested should contact us asap.

• Tuesday August 25th

  Demo rides on Open 5.70 out of your YC! If you are a member of a yacht club in the San Francisco area and would like to invite Open Sailing for a day of fun on the water sailing the Open 5.70s then contact us.

• Wednesday August 26th

  Race out of Sequoia YC, Redwood City.

San Francisco is a great venue for the Open 5.70 and with four boats on the Bay already we are hoping that this road trip will raise awareness of the Open 5.70 and tip the balance so that the Bay Area one-design fleet starts to flourish as it has done down here in Southern California. With 3 boats on display Open Sailing put on quite a show. The lure of sailing with the pros kept both Nik and Jerome busy. As the afternoon went on the breeze picked up and watching the Open 5.70s reach past in the channel was more than enough to get people excited about going sailing. Despite the smaller than expected crowds the event was still a great success.

Open Sailing is going to be in Chicago this weekend for the Sportboat Demo Weekend. If you are in the area then come down to Chicago Corinthian Yacht Club with your sailing gear and check out the Open 5.70 as well as a bunch of other 20 foot sport boats. See our flyer for more information.

At the end of the Miami boat show the Open 5.70 made the short trip south the Shake-A-Leg sailing center where it was launched. With one boat already sold in the Miami area we have a list of people who are just itching to go out for a sail and see what all the buzz is about. The boat will be in the water and available to go sailing from the 18th to the 21st. To schedule an appointment feel free to contact us. If you’d like to just check out the boat in the water or take your chances then feel free to stop by the sailing center which is located at 2620 S Bayshore Dr.

Today was the first day of the Miami Boat Show. Open exlusively to VIP guests the crowds were light but there were more than enough people to keep us busy. Our booth is starting to take shape and although most of the major work was done yesterday there were still some last minute adjustments today.

In the past we’ve heard a lot of people say “if there were a fleet then maybe…” so to address this we have a MIAMI FLEET SIGNUP SHEET where all the people who are interested in the Open 5.70 fill out their name, e-mail and zip code so that after the show we can help connect people and get a fleet going in Miami.

We are also signing people up for demo rides next week (February 17th – 22nd). We ask that those people who are interested pay a $50 deposit that is refundable when they show up for their demo. Our goal is to take as many people out sailing on the Open 5.70 during our time here and we can’t afford to be stood up!!
