2010 Singlehanded Challenge
For the first time this year, there was 5 Open 5.70s racing the Frank Guernsey Singlehanded Challenge. “Chupacabra”, the red Open 6.50 was also racing. The race takes place out of Redondo Beach, CA. The owners motored to the race course (over an hour sail/motor) and entered the race just in time, within minutes of the starting sequence. The race was a 6 mile W/L race. With an overcast and light weather the battle for first place in the Open 5.70 fleet was tight with 3 changes in lead during the race course.
Chupacabra crossed the line first, ahead of a Farr 30 but Open 5.70s USA 277 and 169 corrected to finish 1st and 2nd place in class. USA 277 finished 2nd overall. Kudos to USA 169, Tracey who finished 2nd in the Open 5.70 class and therefore secured her first place for the Open 5.70 2010 Overall Trophy!
