Open Sailing was crewing on the Open 6.50 Slapshot last Saturday for the Outlaw Regatta. The race starts near the “H” marker in Marina Del Rey, around Palos Verdes, to finish inside the breakwater near Seal Beach YC. It’s basically a nice inshore race, following the coast with 1/3 on a close-haul/close-reach and 2/3 of off the wind through Hurricane Gulch.

The wind this year was not as high as expected but Slapshot crushed its competition by finishing 20 minutes ahead of the 2nd boat in its class! With some max speed in 13 knots, we averaged just over 10 knots of speed over the course (over 30 miles).
