One of the only two Finot-Conq Open 40 !

Make no mistake: this is not a class 40. The Open 40, designed in 2001 by Finot-Conq is a full carbon fiber boat, with a rotating wing tapered mast. The Open 40 is about 1,000 lbs lighter than the lightest Class 40 out there, carries more mast (69 feet), more sail area (the boom itself is 25 feet) and more ballast (up to 1.6 metric ton on each side)!!!

Downside, well, there are only 2 of them built. The advantage: one of the best 40 foot sailboat out there. Craftsmanship is superb, engineer is precise and the boat can be pushed. With an Open 40, get the boat on the plane at 30 knots of boat speed, 150 off the wind (true wind), turn the autopilot. You can then go take a nap or stay on deck and enjoy the ride. The boat is stable, powerful and fast!!

James, the owner, called us up and let us know that is boat was for sale. If only we had the cash…but first come first served. We will soon upload more information that James shared with us about his boat. For $300K, fully loaded, it’s a steal.

Enjoy these shots from the boat!

  • Greatings,

I want to start sailing on these large planing hull boats with canting keels and masts. I’m a formula one Windsurfer in San Francisco Bay. Have been sailing 40 years on many types of craft. I like planing hulls, and have spent time in Les Sables D’Olonne, FRANCE where I have family.

Often I sail J120 & 160s man are the slow but not bad.

How can I help the Open 25, 40 or 60 Class in San Francisco Bay?

    Thanks, Adam Darriau
