Cal Race Week is one of the largest sailing regattas held in Marina del Rey, CA. With nine one-design classes racing the Open 5.70 fleet was proud to be tied with the Farr 40 and Schock 35 for the 2nd largest one-design fleet – eight boats. With only one boat travelling down from San Francsico the local Marina del Rey fleet is now officially up to seven Open 5.70s strong.

Paul and Anton were snapped sailing on USA 190 on San Francisco Bay and the picture was published in the June issue of Sailing Magazine.

Early Saturday morning two brand new Open 5.70s headed for Marina del Rey. Six hours later both of them took the start at Cal Race Week.

This coming weekend is Cal Race Week. Open Sailing is going to be running the Kattack software at the event for all the one-design classes, including the Open 5.70. D.I.S.C. is sponsoring the use of Kattack and you can see their introductory video after the jump.

USA 274 is the 3rd American made hull and is going to be based in Marina del Rey, CA. Congratulations to David Brown, the new owner. We’re all looking forward to seeing him on the race course this coming weekend at Cal Race Week.

Open Sailing were invited to race on Cheetah – a Peterson 68 – for Cal Cup 2009. It was a very competitive fleet with many famous faces. The racing was close was quite an experience considering the length of these boats. Racing around the bouys on big boats like this is not only exciting but incredibly exhausting. Jerome and I were trimmers and by the end of each day could bearly lift our arms after grinding winches all day!

Fleet #1 in Marina del Rey, CA

With 3 more Open 5.70s coming out of the factory this month Fleet #1 in Marina del Rey is growing fast. As well as all the usual suspects there are a few new faces (and new boats) out on the water preparing for a summer of fun racing.

At the end of May California Yacht Club will be hosting Cal Race Week. This is one of the larger and most prominent regattas held in Marina del Rey. The Open 5.70s will be there racing one-design with as many as eight boats expected to compete.

A month later in June Long Beach Yacht Club will be hosting Long Beach Race Week. This event is the Open 5.70s Pacific Coast Championship and hopes to draw more than a dozen boats, including multiple boats from the San Francisco area. This many Open 5.70s combined with the ideal conditions often found inside the Long Beach breakwater will make for some great racing.

There hasn’t been a better time to join the fleet than now. If you were to order a new Open 5.70 today we could have you on the water in plenty of time for the Pacific Coast Championship. There are also a couple of pre-owned Open 5.70s available immediately.
