Open 6.50 in Annapolis |
|

The black Open 6.50 has now been delivered to Annapolis, MD. The new owner, Ben, is looking forward to splashing “Narrow Escape” very soon and will be out on the race course shortly after. With a PHRF (pronounced “perf” since it’s an East coast boat) rating of 96 we are excited to see how well the boat does against the other boats in it’s class including the Viper 640 (also rated 96) and the Melges 24 (rated 93).
Hull #1 out sailing |

Isaac, owner of hull #1, at the helm
Hull #1 is in the water and out sailing. It is currently moored in a slip right on the main channel in Marina del Rey making it very easy for Isaac, the new owner, to go out single handed for a couple of hours almost every afternoon!
Working Inside The Open 6.50 |
|
To be honest there’s not a lot of room inside the Open 6.50 which is why it is considered a day sailor. However, there are still occasions when it’s necessary to get inside. Not only is it kinda cramped it is also very dark and gets very warm (and smelly) very quickly…

Decorating Office 2.0 |
|

We’re a small company which means we do a lot of things ourselves. One of those things is decorating our new Administrative Office. Despite the lack of any interior design skills we have really out done ourselves this time. I think the pictures speak for themselves! If they don’t then scroll all the way down to the animations! Les Storrs Regatta |
|

The Les Storrs regatta is hosted by SCCYC. 28 boats were out racing in light and shifty conditions. Two Open 5.70s and one Open 6.50 were on the race course racing in the same class. This is the first time that the two different boats have gone head to head. On paper there were 66 seconds separating the two boats but on the water it much closer in the lighter breeze. Upwind all three boats were almost neck and neck. The Open 6.50 crept ahead and was the first boat around the windward mark, downwind they just took off leaving the Open 5.70s to fight it out. By the end of the first race the Open 6.50, “Crash”, continued to extend their lead finishing 2nd correcting over both of the Open 5.70. The wind stayed light for races 2 & 3. Tracey Kenney on her Open 5.70, “Hat Trick”, sailed well beating the other Open 5.70 in all three races and correcting over the Open 6.50 in the last two races to take 2nd place overall in the regatta. “Crash” also managed a podium finish placing 3rd overall. Full results and photos can be found here.
Office 2.0 |
|
Open Sailing Inc has just opened a new Administrative Office, or Office 2.0 as we like to call it. The new location is much closer to the marina, there is plenty of space to display boats, and we’re within walking distance of the South Coast Corinthian Yacht Club. Feel free to stop by and check out the new Open 5.70 and our newly decorated office.
