Open Sailing has reached it’s first landmark on Facebook – 500 fans… We just need another 8,322,661 fans to get into the top 10 on the Facebook Page Leaderboard… Tell your friends… all your friends…

Yesterday, we had a surprise visit from Rick Peters who won the 2009 Star World Championship. Rick is a great guy, always a smile on his face and plenty of things to talk about. This year, Rick is getting more involved with the Star fleet and wants to bring some excitements during the Star events. California Yacht Club is running the Star North American Championship in August and with 30-40 boats, we can expect some good action on the water. Rick inquired about Kattack, and as the rep for this racing tracking device, we talked about the possibility to run Kattack during the Star North American this Summer.

Kattack now offers live tracking so everyone will be able to follow the race, LIVE from their home computer!Races can also be replayed later at anytime after the races.

We will keep you in the loop and see what the Star Class decides for this event.

The new Open 5.70 North American Class Association website is now live!!

The Open 5.70 has is featured in the 2010 Sarcoma Calendar for the month of April. This was a great race last year. The Open 5.70s had a one design class racing on San Francisco Bay. The day the picture was taken the winds were blowing a steady 30 knots during the final race of the day. The 2010 Sarcoma Calendar is available here.

The Open 6.50 has a new suit of sails from North. On Boxing Day (the day after Christmas) we took the boat out with the new sails to see how they looked… and they looked good. More pictures after the break… (more…)

The Open 6.50, Chupacabra (FRA 007), is a 5 year old used boat and it needs a little cosmetic love. The carbon mast was long overdue a new coat of paint to protect it from the sun. Check out the new paint job – red with black fittings. Click through for more pictures (more…)
