The Open 5.70 will be competing in Santa Barbara Yacht Club‘s Goblin Regatta on Saturday & Sunday!

The charity auction is over. The winning big was $300. The winning boat, USA 214, has pledged that if they finish in the top 3 at the regatta then they will double their donation to Beat Sarcoma!!

Open Sailing put on quite a display at the Strictly Sail Pacific Boat Show in Oakland this year. With a total of 5 boats you couldn’t miss these unique looking race boats especially in the crowd of much larger more cruising orientated sail boats.

The Pogo 2 was definitely the star of the show attracting the most attention at the dock. To the seasoned sailor it was an opportunity to check out a boat that they have only seen in pictures, and to others it was something completely new and exciting, either way the Pogo 2 continued to turn heads and get compliments!

Also on display was the ever popular Open 5.70. The fleet in Northern California has tripled in size since the last years Strictly Sail Boat Show and there are now 11 actively racing Opens on San Francisco Bay. With the Spring Dash just the weekend before there was a lot of buzz around the boat. With one on the trailer, one in the water, and one available to go sailing there was plenty of opportunity to learn everything there is to know about this hot race boat. The season for the fleet has had a strong start already with plenty more events planned – check out the Northern California Racing Calendar and contact the Fleet Captain, Marc Finot at norcal@open570usa.com, for crewing opportunities.

Finally we had the all carbon Open 6.50 on display. This unique clear coated, LA Kings branded racing machine certain caught the eye of everyone passing by. With 3 boats in Southern California this rocket ship of a sailboat has proven to be a lot of fun on the water.

“Slapshot”, the LA Kings branded Open 6.50, was recently featured in a silent auction held by the Kings Care Foundation to raise money for the Children’s Cancer Research Fund (CCRF). On auction was a poster of the racing sailboat that had been autographed by the team as well as the chance to actually go out for a sail on “Slapshot” with Team Open Sailing.

The winners of the auction, Fred and Mary, recently visited Open Sailing to go for a sail. It was a perfect Southern California day – sunny, good visibility, and good breeze. Click through for more pictures.

Another day at the office, testing, tuning, calibrating USA 806 Pogo 2. Call us now for your Test Sail aboard the boat!!

November is turning out to be a big MINI month for Open Sailing:

- We are now counting the days until the first two Pogo 2 are ready to sail. USA 804 (Lee Malm) and USA 806 (Team Open Sailing) are racing to the water! USA 804 is currently a few boat lengths ahead and should be in the water around Thanksgiving break. USA 806 is anticipating more breeze in the next couple of weeks and will also be on the water before the end of November. Both boats will be sailed out of Southern California. We are now organizing TEST SAILS on USA 806. If you are interested in testing the POGO 2, simply EMAIL us. Test Sails aboard USA 806 will start in December. Production slot deposits are also accepted (20% refundable deposit) in order to get your boat ready for the 2011 season! Our goal is to race USA 806 so by testing the boat, you will be able to check out many sails change (cut by UK Sailmakers), a complete NKE Electronic package, full electrical and solar powered equipped. It’s getting closer to the end of the year and the 2010 Open 5.70 High Point Series has come to an end! It’s time for us to reflect on the year gone by and look forward to 2011.

You are all invited to the Open 5.70 Annual Class Association Meeting. It will be held at the Open Sailing Center in Marina del Rey on Friday November 19th. There will be a members only meeting starting at 7pm (see agenda) followed at 8pm by an “open” invitation party which will include the presentation of the 2010 High Point Trophies.
