There is a lot going on in the world of Open Sailing this weekend…

Southern California The Open 5.70 fleet are racing out of Balboa Yacht Club, in Newport Beach for the first time in the class’ history. It’s an Open 5.70 exclusive event being put on by the club and was driven by Jeff, the owner of USA 266, who keep his Open 5.70 in Newport Beach. We will be racing in the ocean off Balboa Pier which provides a great stand to watch the action. The Newport Beach Boat Show is also in town if you need another reason to spend the weekend at the beach.

Northern California The Open 5.70 are racing out of South Beach Yacht Club, which is another first for the class! Once again another Open 5.70 exclusive event being hosted by the Yacht Club.

Hawaii If you are in Hawaii be sure to stop by the Hawaii Ocean Expo and see the Open Sailing Hawaii reps, Joseph and Christin with their Open 5.70 on display. Hawaii Ocean Expo

Open Sailing Hawaii

Open Sailing is going to be at the Hawaii Ocean Expo 2012 from April 21st – 22nd at the Blaisdell Exhibition Hall! Stop by to see the Open 5.70 up close and talk to the Hawaii Open Sailing reps Joseph & Christin!

The Open 5.70 is a fun sport boat which is popular in California and Europe. It’s easy to sail and very manageable in a breeze. With an asymmetrical kite it can easily be crewed by 2 or 3 people and it’s planing hull ensures great performance. The boat is also beamy and carries the right amount of ballast to ensure thrills without too many spills!

Strictly Sail Pacific 2012

Nik

Open Sailing will have the Pogo 2 and the Open 5.70 on display at the Strictly Sail Pacific boat show being held at Jack London Square in Oakland from April 12th until the 15th.

Save $2 off adult admission

The Open 5.70 has become one of the largest one-design classes in California and proudly boasts two active fleets of 13 boats – one in Southern California and one in San Francisco Bay. This high performance day sailor has put the fun back in sailing. Easily sailed by 2 or 3 people, including husbands & wives and fathers & sons, the boat is fast, fun, and forgiving. With a friendly competitive class association and widely varied racing calendar that features events all over California, including one in the High Sierras on Lake Huntington, it easy to see why people like this little boat. Come and see the boat first hand, meet some of the owners, and watch them race on the Estuary in front of the boat show on Saturday afternoon!

The Pogo 2 made it’s debut at this boat show last year. Since then the level of interest in this Mini-Transat has gone through the roof. Perfect as a pocket cruiser with the family or for the offshore adventurer looking to challenge themselves sailing solo across oceans it appeals to the offshore sailor in everyone. Despite being only 21 foot there is plenty of room down below on this boat – it has to be seen to be believed. The boat at the show is going to be 806 (Open Sailing Offshore Racing) – which is currently in the middle of an offshore campaign which has already logged a lot of miles and will climax when the boat leaves San Francisco bound for Hawaii in the Pacific Cup in July 2012.

Best In Show

Nik

Open Sailing put on quite a display at the Strictly Sail Pacific Boat Show in Oakland this year. With a total of 5 boats you couldn’t miss these unique looking race boats especially in the crowd of much larger more cruising orientated sail boats.

The Pogo 2 was definitely the star of the show attracting the most attention at the dock. To the seasoned sailor it was an opportunity to check out a boat that they have only seen in pictures, and to others it was something completely new and exciting, either way the Pogo 2 continued to turn heads and get compliments!

Also on display was the ever popular Open 5.70. The fleet in Northern California has tripled in size since the last years Strictly Sail Boat Show and there are now 11 actively racing Opens on San Francisco Bay. With the Spring Dash just the weekend before there was a lot of buzz around the boat. With one on the trailer, one in the water, and one available to go sailing there was plenty of opportunity to learn everything there is to know about this hot race boat. The season for the fleet has had a strong start already with plenty more events planned – check out the Northern California Racing Calendar and contact the Fleet Captain, Marc Finot at norcal@open570usa.com, for crewing opportunities.

Finally we had the all carbon Open 6.50 on display. This unique clear coated, LA Kings branded racing machine certain caught the eye of everyone passing by. With 3 boats in Southern California this rocket ship of a sailboat has proven to be a lot of fun on the water.

Pogo 2 at the 2011 Oakland Boat Show

Nik
Looooooong Trip to San Francisco:
USA 806 took the road on Friday morning, around 6:30am. Unfortunately, our van’s turbo diesel was malfunctioning and we had no power going uphill…which translated into a 9 hour trip. It was painful to do 40mph driving up the grapevine outside of LA.
So instead of splashing the boat Friday afternoon as planned, we rigged the Open 5.70 (that we were towing as well) and raced last weekend with the Open 5.70 fleet.
Today, we splashed USA 806 out of Alameda Marina, stepped the mast and rigged the boat.
The crane worked great and Rich the harbormaster was super nice and make us feel home already!
We will move the boat tomorrow to Jack London Square at Oakland tomorrow.
Here are some photos…before we get the “good shots” during the show!
As mentioned before, 806 will be in San Francisco until the end of the month, so don’t wait to book your demo ride.

Pogo 2 Production!

Jerome

Hello everyone!

If we count the days, it has been since the first of the year since we initiated the production of the Pogo 2 in the USA. We are proud to announce that after exactly 8 months of hard but quality work, the production of hull # 1 has started this week. The deck will be ready early next week. By then we will have the first lead bulb and cast iron foil made as well. In the meantime, we are also getting other structural hull component fabricated and will start laying up the hull in the next couple of weeks.

Hull # 1 should be ready by the end of September. We will start production of Hull # 2 by the end of August for Lee, Mini racer who is planning on participating to the 2011 Mini Transat. Hull # 3 will get into production around September.

The first Pogo 2 will be introduced in the USA for the first time at the Annapolis Boat Show. Contact us to make sure you can see the boat, and maybe schedule a demo ride!

If all goes well, we are planning on building 3, maybe 4 Pogo 2 before the end of 2010. If you are planning on getting a Pogo 2 for the 2011 season, we definitely encourage you to contact us and book your production slot!
