USA 017 was imported from France in October 2008. During the winter, the boat was used for boat shows (Annapolis, Miami and Chicago Boat Shows). The boat was used 3 times on the water (first time in the water after the Annapolis Boat Show for the Boat of The Year organized by Sailing World). As a result of the article, another Open 6.50, USA 014 was sold in Annapolis, MD. This boat will actually be on display (thanks to the owner) at the 2009 Annapolis Boat Show.

After the success on the East Coast, the boat was brought back to its "home town" in Marina Del Rey. Shortly after, the boat was purchased by a local sailor and racer.

In August 2009 Open Sailing imported a 2nd pair of Open 6.50s - one of them being unique because of its clear varnish over the carbon hull rather than epoxy paint. The owner of USA 017 went by the showroom, looked at the boat and offered us to trade his red/orange hull for this new clear coat Open 6.50. This is why USA 017 is now available on the market.

The boat is only 9 months old and has probably raced less than 10 times in light air conditions. Sails are in very good shape (300 sq. ft. square top main sail, sq. top jib and black asymmetrical spinnaker). The boat is extremely clean. The previous owner had installed a full Tacktick package which he wanted to keep on his new Open 6.50. Rather than installing all the instruments back on his boat + mast, the 2 masts were swapped. In other words, USA 017 now comes with a brand new carbon mast which hasn't seen day light yet (kept under cover). The trailer is still in very good condition despite the miles across the country.

The previous owner has transferred all his "options" back to his new boat and some options may have to be purchased separately as new. However, the price of USA 017, with sails and trailer, is about 15% less than a new Open 6.50.
